Wood
Previously I have worked only in wood, with some selected pieces being cast in bronze, however, as my woodcarving wrist is beginning to suffer, I will be trying to find other less resistant materials to work with, such as wax, clay or plaster. If I can master the techniques adequately I will have the results cast in bronze.
I am no longer taking commissions to carve wood, but the website shows the few pieces I still have available for sale, and some other ‘favourite’ pieces, just to show the sort of work I do.
I have enjoyed using European hardwoods, particularly sycamore, cherry and lime, also oak, ash, boxwood, walnut and yew. All woods have different qualities – some are a pleasure to work with and some are a pain – the most difficult often reward you with the prettiest grain and finest finish.
